I had a craving the other day for some delicious Salted Caramel Ice Cream from my favorite ice cream place in San Francisco - Bi-Rite Creamery. It's basically the best ice cream you'll ever have. Of course the line was out-the-door, so instead I decided I'd just try and make something myself and see if I could kick the craving. Maybe its the approach of Fall, but I never realized how much I love salted caramel!
As much as I love it, I realized I've never tried to make salted caramel myself! So after much research, trial and error, I discovered an awesome Salted Caramel Frosting recipe (with a few modifications to taste). The boiling sugar part was a bit tricky but after a few attempts I made enough salted caramel to last me all of Fall! Just make sure to let the sugar boil until it's a lovely amber color and you'll be set.
Now with a ridiculous amount of salted caramel on-hand, it was time to make some chocolate cupcakes. I have a tendency to overdo things a bit when it comes to recipe testing and also made a chocolate ganache frosting as well as a peanut butter frosting.
And Voila! You've got yourself enough salted caramel for a lifetime and enough cupcakes to feed a small country.
Luckily, Font & Flour had a few orders so I packaged them up and sent them along their way.
With cooler weather approaching and all the delicious, savory, and sweet flavors that come with it, I have a feeling Fall is going to be filled with some awesome cravings. Let us know some of your Fall cravings!
That caramel made my mouth water! I wish I had the patience to make these goodies myself...but I guess I should just be grateful to have you at F&F to make them for me!
ReplyDeleteI like pumpkins, but sometimes pumpkin spiced goodies are overdone this time of year and I just want an old fashioned spice cake. Do you have any ideas for a good spice cake w/cream cheese frosting? Or maybe with that caramel!
Salted and caramel are my two favorite dessert words! Gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteAs far as Fall goes, I'm definitely a fan of hot chocolate and fires. Living in an apartment without a fireplace really sucks. It's definitely #1 on the list for when we get a new place.
